NDC Grassroots Anger Rises Over GoldBod’s Alleged Sponsorship of London Women of Valour Event

Tensions are rising within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as grassroots members express outrage over GoldBod Jewellery’s reported involvement in sponsoring the Women of Valour program, organized by media personality Nana Aba Anamoah in London.

The high profile event, held on March 7, 2026, at the London Hilton on Park Lane, brought together women from various backgrounds to network and celebrate ahead of International Women’s Day. Founded by Anamoah, the program has been praised for empowering women, but its overseas location and alleged state backed sponsorship have ignited fierce criticism from NDC footsoldiers who view it as a misuse of public resources.

Social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), have become a battleground for discontent. One post highlighted the perceived extravagance: “GOLDBOD jewelry sponsoring Women of Valour organized outside Ghana shows the NDC is not ready to undo the mess in the system. Consider the cost between organizing it in Ghana and that of the UK.” Another lamented the disconnect: “It’s sad to see Gertrude Emefa Donkor and her Goldbod Jewelry sponsor Nana Aba Anamoah on her 2026 Women of Valour. Where was Gertrude Emefa Donkor when we were campaigning?”

GoldBod Jewellery, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board, has since clarified that it did not sponsor the event, though netizens remain skeptical about the nature of any partnership. Critics argue that such expenditures abroad undermine the NDC’s promises of fiscal responsibility and prioritizing local needs, especially amid economic challenges.

Party insiders fear this could erode grassroots support, with some drawing parallels to past NPP controversies. As one commenter put it, “Nana Aba dey enjoy, party footsoldiers dey cry.”

The NDC leadership has yet to respond officially, but the backlash underscores growing frustrations over perceived elite favoritism within the party.
