NDC to change Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport

The government is set to submit a bill to Parliament proposing the renaming of Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, according to Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga. He disclosed this during a Parliamentary Leadership media briefing held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Hon. Ayariga noted that the bill forms part of the list of anticipated legislation and regulations scheduled for consideration by the House in the current session. He added that the Minister for Transport will be responsible for presenting the bill and seeking parliamentary approval for the proposed name change.
Parliamentary procedure requires that any alteration to the name of a state facility must receive formal approval from Parliament before it can take legal effect.
Kotoka International Airport serves as Ghana’s principal international airport and functions as the country’s main entry point for passenger travel, cargo handling, and diplomatic movements. Should the name change proceed, it would necessitate updates to official government records as well as relevant aviation documentation.
While Mr. Ayariga did not specify the exact date on which the bill would be formally introduced in Parliament, he confirmed that it is included among the Transport Ministry’s legislative priorities for the ongoing session, which began today.
