Eid al-Adha: Be responsible, avoid drugs — Mahama tells Ghanaian youth

President John Dramani Mahama advises the youth to avoid drug abuse and other harmful activities that will ruin their futures and derail national advancement. On Wednesday, May 27, the President of Ghana addressed the nation at Independence Square with his Eid al-Adha address, which urges young people to develop self-discipline, hard work, responsibility, and positive values so that they can realize their true potential as potential contributors to the nation’s prosperity.

President Mahama used the occasion to showcase the importance of moral leadership as well as peaceful coexistence, reminding citizens that the life of the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, should provide an example to all citizens.

He described the National Chief Imam as an inspiring figure across religion and political lines for his enduring attempts to model humility, compassion, simplicity, tolerance and peacebuilding. “We are fortunate to have the everlasting example of our venerated National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, whose life continues to inspire all Ghanaians through humility, compassion, simplicity, tolerance and peacebuilding.

Let us embrace these noble virtues in our private lives,” the President said. President Mahama also advised the youths to remain focused and avoid the activities that would divert their attention or destabilize society. “I encourage young people to be disciplined, law-abiding, respectful and responsible citizens, too. I ask you to keep off drug addiction. Our country needs young people who will concentrate on education and abilities, hard work and entrepreneurship and their duty to humanity.”
