Special Prosecutor Speaks Out on Bail Conditions for Paul Adom-Otchere

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially broken its silence on the bail conditions imposed on renowned broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere, following widespread public debate and media scrutiny.

In a detailed press release and subsequent media briefing on August 1, 2025, the Special Prosecutor defended the decision, stating that the conditions were “fully within the bounds of Ghana’s legal procedures.” He emphasized that the move was based on due process, without bias or political interference.

Paul Adom-Otchere, host of Good Evening Ghana, was earlier invited for questioning in relation to an ongoing investigation involving potential financial misconduct linked to state contracts. The bail conditions, which included travel restrictions and a substantial surety requirement, sparked both criticism and concern among civil society groups and media advocates.

The Special Prosecutor addressed these concerns directly:

“The Office acted within the law, and the bail conditions were neither excessive nor politically motivated.”

He further clarified that such measures were standard in high-profile investigations, especially where public interest and accountability are involved. The OSP also encouraged the public to allow the legal process to take its course without interference or speculation.

This development marks a significant moment in Ghana’s justice landscape, as it reinforces the delicate balance between media freedom and the rule of law. As the case unfolds, Assafuah Media will continue to provide accurate and timely updates.
