The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has granted a week’s extension to the deadline earmarked for submission of findings by the Stakeholders Committee tasked with evaluating DSTv pricing in Ghana. The committee, which began work on September 8, 2025, is now expected to submit it’s final report by September 29, 2025.
The National Communication Authority (NCA), in a statement issued on Tuesday September 23, said the extension was granted to enable the Committee to complete it’s work and to ensure that it’s recommendations adequately addressed the concerns raised by the Minister over DSTv pricing.
The mandate of the Committee includes developing a shared understanding of DSTv pricing for Ghana and formulating commercially viable measures acceptable to all parties.
DSTv is faced with an imminent license suspension, the Minister has hinted on many occasions. There are also efforts to establish a roadmap to tackle across- border piracy of DSTv decoders and services from Nigeria to Ghana.
According to the NCA, the Committee has made significant progress since it’s inauguration but required more time to conclude consultations and harmonise the position of stakeholders. The review comes amidst growing concerns over the comparatively higher cost of DSTv subscriptions in Ghana and their impact on consumers, as well as persistent challenges with illegal cross-border access to the service.
