Communicating to the media on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General and Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor said investigations indicate the suspect used a Telegram application called “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.” She said that the suspect allegedly used the drug Xanax, or alprazolam, to sedate unsuspecting women prior to sexually abusing them. The suspect allegedly recorded the acts and uploaded the videos online without the victims’ permission.
The CID cop said the suspect frequented nightclubs, where he had allegedly attacked women, drugged them and engaged in similar sexual misconduct before he posted the content online. Police seized several items while arresting him including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets suspected to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.
The Ghana Police Service said the electronic devices were securely stored for forensic investigation and that the sachets will be dispatched to the Food and Drugs Authority for their contents and classification. Commissioner Donkor commented: “The suspect has been arraigned before court and investigations are still ongoing.” The Police Service reiterated its efforts in relation to combating online sexual exploitation; it urged people to inform the correct authorities when this is suspected.
