Suspended KATH CEO Appeals to Striking Doctors and Staff to Resume Duty

The suspended Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has appealed to striking staff to return to work immediately, urging them to prioritise patient care while discussions on their concerns continue at the national level.
In a statement issued from the Office of the Chief Executive on Monday, June 8, Dr. Baidoo expressed appreciation to the staff for their show of solidarity during the industrial action, which has severely disrupted healthcare services at the hospital.
However, he stressed the urgent need for staff to resume duties “in the supreme interest of Ghanaians and valued patients.”
Dr. Baidoo indicated that hospital management would defer further decisions and directives to the “supreme wisdom” of the Minister of Health and the hospital’s governing board.
The appeal comes as patients continue to face significant challenges accessing medical services due to the ongoing strike.
The development follows a directive by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on June 5, instructing the KATH Board to suspend Dr. Baidoo for two weeks with immediate effect. The Minister cited the CEO’s decision to temporarily suspend new emergency admissions as inconsistent with instructions from President John Dramani Mahama on managing the situation at the facility.
