Over 16 NPP Members Arrested Over Social Media Comments – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Alleges

The Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament and former Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, claimed that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has arrested more than 16 members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) since assuming office. Mr Oppong Nkrumah said on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, that the individuals were detained and subjected to unfair treatment for making comments on social media that the government found unfavourable in talk on Joy FM’s Midday News.
“Over sixteen NPP persons have been arrested for simply making comments on social media or posting things on social media that the government finds unpalatable,” he said. This assertion was made at the time of the recent arrest and ongoing detention of Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP. “In the case of Kwame Baffoe Abronye, he was earlier arrested, denied bail… and now, Abronye has been detained from last Wednesday till today as I am speaking to you,” he said. Mr Oppong Nkrumah further alleged that since Abronye DC’s arrest, his family members, political associates, and legal team have been denied access to him.
