Retain 60-70% of Constituency Executives in Ashanti Region – Dr Nana Ayew Afriye

The Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has called for the retention of most constituency-level executives in the Ashanti Region following the ongoing internal elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He argued that maintaining experienced grassroots leadership is essential for the party’s efforts to recapture power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to Asaase News on Monday, June 1, Dr Afriye said continuity at the constituency level would ensure stability and strengthen the party’s electoral machinery in its traditional stronghold.
“When it comes to the constituency elections it doesn’t matter where people threw their support,” he said.
“We pray that 60 to 70 percent of them must be retained in the Ashanti Region,” he added, emphasising the need for experienced hands to bolster the party’s grassroots structures.
Dr Afriye noted that constituency chairmen and other local executives play a vital role in maintaining party cohesion and mobilising support, especially in competitive political environments.
On the regional level, he called for the selection of leaders who are ideologically aligned with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“If you want to recapture power from the NDC especially in the Ashanti Region you need experienced hands… But when it comes to the regional election that is where we should have someone who understands the ideology of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
Internal elections in the NPP are currently underway in the Ashanti Region as part of broader preparations to reorganise and strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
