Subject: Petition Against Atiwa East DCE Ernest Ntim’s Galamsey Activities for His Removal by His Excellency the President.
Dear Honourable Sir,
I write to your esteemed office in my capacity as a concerned citizen and a firm believer in the rule of law, probity and accountability. It has been approximately one year and some months since His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama assumed office. During this period, the issue of illegal mining commonly known as “galamsey,” has been a significant concern and priority of him. Whilst the President appears committed to using national resources to combat environmental pollution and has instructed his representative District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs), to support this endeavor, the reality on the ground has become disheartening.
It is now apparent to many Ghanaians that this exercise is faltering with reports indicating that members of the NDC even among appointed officials, are taking leading roles in the destruction of our environment through illegal mining activities with impunity.
One such NDC appointee is the DCE for Atiwa East District Mr. Ernest Ntim who has flagrantly disregarded mining regulations to despoil the district’s environment through galamsey. Despite media reports and public criticism calling for him to cease his actions over the past year, these appeals have gone unheeded. Last year the High Court in Koforidua convicted Mr. Ntim for his galamsey offenses, sentenced him to 8 days imprisonment and imposing a Ghc 120,000 fine on him. Throughout these proceedings and convictions President John Dramani Mahama has remained conspicuously silent.
This year Mr. Ntim has escalated his destructive activities causing extensive damage to a vast tract of my land through illegal mining. This has attracted further media attention and led to demonstrations against the DCE. Despite these overwhelming circumstances the President’s silence persists. My legal recourse at court has resulted in an injunction being placed on DCE Ernest Ntim and his associates involved in active galamsey and illegal mining who have unlawfully destroyed my properties. (A certified copy of the court injunction is attached for your perusal.)
My humble petition to your office is to respectfully seek your assistance in utilizing your good offices to address this grave matter at the parliamentary level. My aim is to bring this critical issue to the attention of the President, urging him to remove this key figure in the district’s galamsey crisis who appears to act with impunity and as if he is untouchable.
I trust that urgent attention will be given to this petition. Ghanaians are collectively looking forward to a cleaner environment and improved public health across the nation.
Yours Sincerely,
Daniel Ansah
Signed………..
Your Humble Petitioner.
