Fighting galamsey will affect our chances in 2028 – NDC Akrofuom MP

The NDC Member of Parliament for Akrofuom, Hon. Joseph Azumah, has warned that the continuing efforts to combat illegal mining widely referred to as galamsey might result in electoral setbacks for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2028 general elections.

Appearing on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme, the MP acknowledged that the drive against galamsey represents a tough yet essential endeavour.

“I know that this galamsey fight will affect the NDC in the next elections because it’s not an easy battle. If you are fighting galamsey, you must be ready for the consequences,” he stated.

Hon. Azumah pointed out that numerous communities now depend on galamsey as their primary means of earning a living, which adds to the difficulties of the enforcement campaign.

“What government is supposed to do, it is doing, but the people themselves are not ready for change,” he further commented.
