Court reduces Agradaa’s 15-year sentence to one year

The 15-year prison term handed down to the controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa has been reduced to 12 calendar months following a ruling by the Amasaman High Court, which described the original sentence as unduly severe and excessive.

In its judgment, the court upheld her conviction but used its discretionary powers to modify the penalty, lowering it from the 15 years of hard labour previously imposed by the trial judge.

The adjusted sentence is backdated to July 3, 2025 the date of her original conviction meaning Nana Agradaa will now serve a total of 12 months in custody.

The court acknowledged that the offences she was convicted of deserved punishment, but concluded that the initial sentence was disproportionately harsh given the circumstances, warranting a reduction.

Nana Agradaa, who transitioned from being a fetish priestess to an evangelist, was convicted on charges of charlatanic advertisement and obtaining money by false pretences.

She was found guilty of deceiving victims through a televised broadcast in 2022, during which she falsely asserted that she had spiritual abilities to double money.

These claims induced several people to hand over substantial amounts of money in anticipation of supernatural financial multiplication promises that were never honoured.
