Suame MP and Legal Counsel to the Minority Caucus in Parliament, Hon John Darko has reacted to the removal of Mrs Gertrude Torkonoo from her role as Chief Justice. Hon. Darko has described the act as a flagrant assault on the Judiciary by the head of the Executive Branch.
He condemned the President’s action as politically motivated and that 1st September should be infamously commemorated as a day on which the Judiciary was finally subjugated by the Executive arm of Government.
Mr Darko has opined that the singular action of the President erodes all the country’s past effort in consolidating its democratic credentials.
“By this singular act of the President, he has set the country back in our democratic process” the statement described.
