High Court Dismisses K.T. Hammond’s Election Petition, Orders GH¢60,000 Fine
The High Court in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, has dismissed the election petition filed by former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru Hammond (K.T. Hammond), challenging the 2024 parliamentary results in Adansi Asokwa.
Hammond, who had represented the constituency for more than two decades, lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani, in the December 2024 elections. Dorani secured 14,229 votes, while Hammond polled 13,275, a difference of 954 votes.
Unhappy with the defeat, Hammond filed a petition on January 15, 2025, questioning the credibility of the outcome. However, his repeated absence from three consecutive court sittings led the Obuasi High Court to strike out the case. The court also imposed a GH¢60,000 fine against him.
