Six Bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena Arrested After Shooting of Former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo

Six bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, younger brother of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, have reportedly been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that left the former legislator injured.

A source familiar with the matter told the media that police officers picked up the bodyguards on Sunday following the alleged shooting.

“I don’t really remember the time, but it was around nine thereabouts. Some of the bodyguards from his brother’s house, from Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s house, have been arrested. The police just took them away. At the moment, we haven’t heard anything further and are waiting for the police to come up with something,” the source said.

The source confirmed that Adwoa Safo was shot in front of her brother’s residence but indicated that her injuries were not life-threatening. She was reportedly inside a vehicle when the gunshots were fired.

“She is very okay. She is at the hospital. The injury is not too serious, but an injury is an injury. She was in the car when she was shot,” the source stated.

The source further claimed that the weapon used appeared to be a pump-action gun, with pellets causing injuries around her upper body, including under her neck and on her chest. There was also blood on her face before she was rushed to the hospital.

Adwoa Safo is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.

The incident occurred amid ongoing tensions surrounding the succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo. The leadership transition has reportedly sparked disagreements within the family, with some relatives opposing attempts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next leader.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Investigations are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and the subsequent arrests.
