Asante Akyem Central NPP Officers Petition Party …To Suspend Internal Elections Over Alleged Irregularities

Some constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asante Akyem Central have petitioned the party’s Ashanti Regional leadership to suspend ongoing internal elections over what they describe as serious irregularities threatening the credibility of the process.
In a petition addressed to the Ashanti Regional Chairman and copied to the party’s General Secretary, the officers alleged that unauthorized materials such as exercise books were used to record members’ details instead of the approved membership register, leading to the alleged omission of some eligible members during data transfers.
They also claimed the party failed to conduct the required verification exercise scheduled between April 1 and April 14.
The petition further accused some constituency officials of deliberately preventing certain polling station meetings from taking place, denying some party members the opportunity to register and participate in the elections.
The officers also raised concerns over the alleged involvement of former Municipal Chief Executive Robert Yaw Kwakye, who has reportedly declared his intention to contest the parliamentary primaries, in discussions on electoral processes despite party rules barring interested candidates from participating in such arrangements.
They also challenged the alleged submission of an unapproved list of polling station election committee members to the regional office without approval from the Constituency Executive Committee.
