The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party has admonished all aspirants in the party’s upcoming primaries to refrain from personality attacks, focusing instead on their track records and policies. In a meeting held between the members of the Council of Elders and the aspirants, aspirants were charged to be united, disciplined and respectful towards each other, as they canvassed for votes from the party’s delegates.
The aspirants were reminded of the bigger task ahead, which was winning the 2028 General Elections, a battle which required a united front. An ad hoc Committee established to receive and address petitions and concerns from aspirants on the use of denigrating comments against opponents, was also launched. It is expected that the Committee would provide a structured and impartial channel for redressing grievances from aspirants.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Council of Elders, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, representatives of the National Executive Commitee, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin – Minority Leader, Hon. Kwame Addo-Kufuor- Chairman of the Vetting Committee, Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye- Chairman of the 2024 Election Review Committee, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu- Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, as well as other distinguished party leaders including, Hon. Kan Dapaah and Hon. Peter Mac Manu.
Presidential aspirants present at the meeting were Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and H.E. Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, who joined the meeting virtually as well the representative of Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi.
The NPP is expected to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 General Elections on 31st January 2026.
