NADMO Activates Nationwide Emergency Centres as Flooding Worsens in Accra

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has activated emergency operation centres across the country as heavy rains continue to cause severe flooding in parts of Accra, submerging homes and destroying property.

The activation is intended to improve coordination of rescue and relief operations, with response teams placed on high alert in flood-prone communities as the rainy season intensifies.

Speaking to Citi News, Senior Officer at NADMO’s Inspectorate Department, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, said the organisation’s decentralised structure allows for rapid deployment of emergency teams once distress calls are received.

“The emergency response team is always on standby and they are always prepared. Once we receive a report, they move to the area to assist,” he said.

He added that the teams are well-equipped to carry out evacuations and pump water out of flooded homes.

Alhaji Abubakar also announced that NADMO is set to launch a mobile application to enhance flood reporting. The app will allow residents to send precise locations of flooding incidents using local languages.

“We are launching an app at the NADMO headquarters for people to be able to give us the right location of every flooding situation. You can speak Twi, Ewe and any local dialect. This will help in effective flood management,” he stated.
