NPP condemns “vicious attacks” on Kufuor, calls on NDC to restrain Kevin Taylor

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denounced political commentator Kevin Ekow Taylor over what it calls repeated verbal attacks on former President John Agyekum Kufuor. The NPP is urging the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to publicly distance itself from Taylor’s remarks.

In a statement issued on Friday, 8 May, the NPP described Taylor’s commentary as “vicious” and criticized the NDC for staying silent while insults are directed at a former head of state.

“This is not politics. This is desecration,” the party stated.

The NPP praised former President Kufuor for his leadership, noting his role in stabilizing Ghana’s economy, strengthening democratic institutions, and earning international recognition.

“He is not a partisan target; he is a father of this nation,” the statement added.

The party further argued that the NDC’s failure to respond amounts to tacit endorsement, claiming that Taylor has known ties to the ruling party.

“When a known operative verbally assaults a former President and the leadership of the NDC watches in silence, their silence becomes an endorsement,” the NPP said.

The opposition is demanding that President John Dramani Mahama and NDC leaders publicly condemn Taylor’s comments and disassociate themselves from him.

The NPP also called on Taylor to issue a “full, unqualified and public apology” to former President Kufuor.

The party warned that political discourse must respect certain limits, particularly when it involves former national leaders.

“The NDC must decide whether it will stand with our shared cultural values or with the savagery of Kevin Taylor,” the statement concluded.
