Akufo-Addo Meets NPP Presidential Aspirants to Foster Unity Ahead of 2026 Primaries

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at his private residence in Nima, Accra, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
The meeting was convened to foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. The former President emphasised the critical importance of maintaining party cohesion as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Call for Issue-Based Campaign
Former President Akufo-Addo expressed appreciation to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules, noting that their presence demonstrated a shared commitment to the collective good of the NPP.
He reminded the gathering that he holds each aspirant in high esteem, having worked closely with them, and acknowledged their respective contributions to both the party and the nation. The former President encouraged them to conduct their campaigns in a healthy, issue-based manner, focusing on presenting their visions to party delegates.
“His primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to working towards a properly energised and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” the statement from the Office of the Former President said.
Aspirants Pledge Solidarity
In a strong display of solidarity, all five presidential aspirants assured their personal assurances and those of their campaign teams that they would maintain a healthy yet competitive campaign atmosphere.
They further pledged to rally behind the eventual winner of the primaries and uphold the party’s unity thereafter.
The former President also urged the party’s leadership to ensure a credible and fair process to strengthen unity after the presidential primaries.
