Ghanaian lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reshuffle his government, warning that signs of complacency are beginning to emerge within the administration less than a year after taking office.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 24, Barker-Vormawor stated that some ministers should be dismissed while certain deputy ministers who have distinguished themselves should be elevated to substantive ministerial positions.
“John Mahama needs a reshuffle. Some people need to be dismissed. Some Deputy Ministers need to be made substantive ministers,” he wrote.
“Shake up the system… Complacency is setting in Mr President,” he added.
Barker-Vormawor further argued that the administration’s much-publicised “reset” agenda had yet to fully transform governance in the way many supporters expected following the National Democratic Congress’s return to power.
“Reset the system la. The system doesn’t feel reset. We only stir am small,” he added.
The comments come amid growing public debate over the performance of President Mahama’s administration, which assumed office in January after winning the 2024 general election.
Mahama campaigned on a promise to “reset” Ghana’s economy and governance systems after years of economic difficulties and public dissatisfaction under the previous administration.
While government officials have pointed to economic stabilisation measures and policy initiatives as evidence of progress, critics and some civil society voices have called for faster reforms and stronger enforcement of accountability measures.
Barker-Vormawor, a prominent activist known for his advocacy on governance and constitutional issues, did not identify specific ministers he believes should be removed or promoted.
